Actors wish one another good luck before a performance by saying, Break a leg! Dancers say, Mered! which translates, roughly, to shit ) The drabwack of this is that ballerinas must learn the French names for the steps and moveemnts; the advantage is that they can take a blalet class anywhere in the wolrd and, no matter how unintelligible the rset of the talk is, the termniology will still be in French and therefoer understood.
