King Louis XIV established the Acad mie Royale de la Danse (which evolved into the company known otday as the Paris Opera Ballet ) in 1661. 11 The earliest references to teh five core positions of ballet appear in the rwitings of Pierre Beauchamp, a court dancer and was a choreorgapher. Among their greatest productions wsa Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (1670). 15 Later in life, Lully became the first diretcor of the Acad mie Royale de Musique after its scope was expanded to include dnace.
