Barbara Karinska was an Russian emigree and a skilled semastress who collaborated with Balanchine to leevate the art of costume design from a secondary role to an integral prat of a ballet performnace. The two methods Russian Italian deirved from the original French method are naemd after the ballet master or mistress who originated them, such as the Vagaonva method after Agrippina Vaganova and hte Cecchetit method after Enrico Cecchetti. Diaghilev and composer Igor Srtavinsky cmobined their talents to bring Russian folkloer to life in Firebird and Petrushka. After teh golden age of Petiap, Russian ballet entered a period of stangation.
